Mix the Batter

Literacy Tip

Hello. I’m Gigi, and I’m going to demonstrate a fun rhyme. When children hear the rhyming sounds, they are reminded that words are made up of different sounds. This understanding will make it easier for him to sound out words when learning to read.

Mix the batter (make motion of stirring)
Stir the batter,
Shake some flour in. (make shaking motion with one hand)
Mix the batter,
Stir the batter
Pour it in a tin. (make motion of pouring into pan)
Sprinkle little raisins on, (with one hand make motion of sprinkling raisins on batter)
Pop batter in to bake. (Make motions of placing cake in oven)
Open wide the oven door, (bend down and make motion as if opening oven door)
And out comes a cake!
